Ekurhuleni remembers the elderly this festive season

The elderly are often isolated and neglected by society.

In reminding them of how precious they are, Ekurhuleni mayor clr Mondli Gungubele invited the City’s senior citizens for a Christmas breakfast held at the Germiston Civic Centre recently.

The elderly residents from various parts of Ekurhuleni, dined with the Mayor and were showered with gifts of food parcels, blankets and toiletries to be enjoyed during the festive season.

“Today’s breakfast is to say thank you for your blessings through the past year,” said clr Gungubele .

“We are what we are today because of you and our way of showing gratitude is by striving to continue making you happy through ensuring your living conditions are satisfactory,” he added.

All that 117 year old Gogo Lena Mmola, the oldest guest at the banquet table, could do was give the mayor a kiss on his hand to show gratitude for the kind gesture of remembering the elderly at this time.

The Member of the Mayoral Committee for Health and Social Development, clr Makhosazana Mabaso took the opportunity to thank the care givers who care for the senior citizens and humbly requested that they continue to care for the City’s older residents.

In closing the Mayor wished his guests a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
