Writing competition extended

Good news for all high school learners, the Caxton/Hirsch's Creative Writing competition is extended by a month.

Caxton Local Newspapers and Hirsch’s have extended the competition where they are giving teenagers in Gauteng an opportunity to win their share of R8 000. The Competition now ends on December 5.

This year, Caxton East and South Division has partnered with Hirschs Homestore, headed by Margaret Hirsch, Chief Operations Officer of the Hirsch Group, who was recently given a Lifetime Achievement Award in the Retail and Wholesale Industry in South Africa. The aim of the two parties is to give school children in Ekurhuleni and the South of Johannesburg an opportunity to let their talent shine.

To be part of this amazing competition, all you need to do is write a story about yourself in 600 words or less.

The Topic: You are 90 years old and sitting on your front porch looking back on your life. Work back from where you are at 90 to when you were 80, to 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20 right down to today, the day you read about the creative writing competition.

Hirsch’s will be awarding a prize of R 5000 for the best essay, R 2000 for the second place and R 1000 for the third place from all entries received via Caxton Creative Writing websites.

To enter go to click on the ‘Entry Form’, enter your details and attach your essay to the form. Alternatively you can drop your essays at any of our Caxton East and South offices respectively.

The winners will be chosen via a judging panel. The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Competition ends on December 5.

The top five essays will be published on the Caxton Creative Writing website.
