Free vehicle testing during October

For the majority of people residing in Ekurhuleni, public transport is the only means of getting from one point to the other.

The Ekurhuleni Metro is, therefore, rolling out a robust plan of action to celebrate and highlight the importance of having safe and reliable transport services throughout October, dubbed Transport Month.

For the entire month, free vehicle testing of all public transport vehicles and trucks with a gross vehicle mass of 3 500kg and above will be conducted at any of the Ekurhuleni testing centres.

The free testing will be done between 8.30am and 14.30pm on weekdays, except for Wednesdays, when it will begin at 9.30am.

No prior booking is required.

The following testing stations are participating in the programme:

In breaking the bounds of the transport sector, which is a male-dominated field, the metro will acknowledge and honour Ekurhuleni women involved in transport through an awards ceremony to be held on Saturday, in the Kempton Park City Hall.

Furthermore, on October 16, a licensing business gala dinner will be held in Germiston, where the Licensing Business Desk, opened in 2004, will be re-launched to highlight the convenience it offers to businesses.

The high number of deaths on the country’s road continues to be a concern for government and various organisations. Ekurhuleni faith-based organisations have taken it upon themselves to do their bit to create awareness of the matter and they will, to this end, congregate for a Transport Indaba on October 26, in the Germiston City Hall.

In the wake of recent fatal taxi industry unrest, the interdenominational prayer conference is anticipated to address critical issues affecting public transport operators and commuters.
