Minnebron man (24) recovers at home after being shot

A 24-year-old man, who was shot in the chest in Mynhardt Avenue, Minnebron, on Wednesday was discharged from hospital on Saturday.

The man was on his way to his house in Gert Bezuidenhout Avenue, also in Minnebron, when a robber appeared.

“I heard somebody running towards me. He demanded that I hand over my phone and I panicked and said that I don’t have one. That’s when he shot me and ran away,” said the victim.

He collapsed on the pavement after being shot, but managed to phone his mother and told her that he had been shot.

“I received a phone call from my son just past 7pm,” said the victim’s mother, who would rather stay anonymous to protect his identity.

“He kept on saying ‘I’ve just been shot’. I couldn’t believe what I heard.”

The victim was taken to the Far East Rand Hospital and was discharged on Saturday.

“It’s only by the grace of God that my son is back home and recovering,” his mother added.

A case of attempted murder is being investigated by the Brakpan SAPS.
