Man (24) shot in Minnebron

A 24-year-old man, who was walking along Mynhardt Avenue, in Minnebron, last night (Wednesday), was shot in the chest.

The man, who collapsed on the pavement, managed to phone his mother and told her that he had been shot from behind by an unknown person.

He was on his way to his house, in Gert Bezuidenhout Avenue, also in Minnebron, when the attack took place.

“I received a phone call from my son at just past 7pm,” said the victim’s mother, who would rather stay anonymous to protect his identity.

“He kept on saying ‘I’ve just been shot’. I couldn’t believe what I heard.”

“I don’t even know why my son was shot and who may have shot him. All that I can say is that I applaud the Brakpan SAPS and the ambulance for being so quickly on the scene.”

The mother told the Herald that her son was taken to the Far East Rand Hospital, and she was not sure of the condition he was in.

“They only told me that I should bring clothes and toiletries for my son, when I go to see him today. I hope that means that he’s doing fine,” she said.

A case of attempted murder was opened at the Brakpan Police Station.
