Carnival City employees roll up their sleeves to plant trees

Carnival City employees rolled up their sleeves in the spirit of Arbour Week and planted 14 indigenous Forest Bushwillow (Combretum Kraussi) trees in the complex gardens as a gesture of its ongoing emphasis on environmental sustainability.

The 2015 Arbour Week, from September 1 to 7, serves to raise awareness of the role and importance of indigenous trees as part of a sustainable environment. The first Arbour Day in South Africa was celebrated in 1983 with the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries as the custodian.

It was later extended to National Arbour Week in 1999 to encourage South Africans to plant more than a billion trees per year.

“Trees play an important role; trees are the livelihoods of people and their environment, now and for the future,” said general manager of Carnival City, Annemie Turk.
