Garage robbed of R40 000

On Friday, around 10.30am, an Engen filling station situated at the corner of Ndabezitha and Pedi streets, Tsakane, was robbed of an estimated R40 000 in cash.

According to one of the petrol attendants at the garage, a silver VW Golf 4 GTi, displaying no number plates, parked at the entrance of the garage.

Four armed males jumped out the vehicle, while one of them remained in the idling vehicle.

The cashier said that since the garage is under renovations, she had locked the security gate, but the perpetrators broke the gate down with a pick and forced their entry.

The suspects took the money that was on the desk and tried to forcefully open the safe, but failed.  Fortunately, no shots were fired.

The money robbed were proceeds from the morning transactions yet to be deposited in the safe.

All five occupants of the vehicle left the scene at high speed into Gare street in a southerly direction towards Duduza.

A look-out was dispatched and officers rushed in the direction the vehicle fled, but could not locate the culprits.

A manhunt has been launched to bring the robbers to book.
