Six arrested for hijackings and robberies
Six men suspected of a spate of hijackings of Toyota Avanzas and spaza shops robberies in Ekurhuleni were arrested in Tsakane this week.
The EMPD Community Liaison Unit members acted on information gathered and picked up all six the suspects between Tuesday and yesterday.
One Avanza was recovered intact, while two were found dismantled. One unlicensed firearm with seven live rounds was also seized.
The one Avanza, hijacked by the gang at gunpoint at 11am on Monday, June 1, in Daveyton, was recovered on Tuesday, in Katlehong.
The driver of this car led the Metro Police to all five the other members of the gang. Three were caught on Wednesday and one yesterday.
At around 2pm yesterday, the suspects pointed out the Avanza they had hijacked on Sunday, May 31, in Rathanda, Vosloorus, whereupon a third Avanza was also located.
Both the recovered vehicles had been completely dismantled.
The suspects are also linked to a the robbery of a Pakistani-owned shop, in Geluksdal, which took place on Sunday, May 31, when R5 700 was grabbed.
All six suspects were handed over to members of the Vereeniging SAPS Organised Crime Unit.
In-depth investigations are underway, to establish involvement of the suspects in other crimes.
