The colourful and woolly socks were donated by the children of St Columba’s School, in Benoni.
It is the second year in a row that the school has made a generous donation to the Herald’s Woollies Collection project.
The pupils also donated socks to two other worthy organisations.
The Herald aims to collect as many blankets, socks, woollen hats, gloves and scarves as possible, and to distribute them to various welfare organisations in Brakpan.
The project, which the Herald has run for the past nine years, is greatly appreciated by the beneficiaries, who treasure a blanket and a pair of warm socks to shield them from the cold.
Once again, VC SuperSpar in Dalview is supporting the project and has already placed a donation box at the entrance to the shop.
In most households there is an extra blanket or two, forgotten about and packed away in a cupboard.
These blankets, as well as a snug pair of socks, could ensure someone less fortunate a warm night’s sleep.
New and knitted socks, hats, gloves and scarves, or any old blankets in a good, clean condition, will be accepted.
Items can be delivered to the Herald’s office, at 25 Hendrik Potgieter Street, in Dalview.
Those residents who want to support the project, but are unable to visit the Herald’s office during working hours, can also make donations at VC SuperSpar, which is situated along Craigholm Street, in Dalview.
The Herald politely requests that residents do not donate any other items of clothing for this specific project.
