Shop owner conned by women

A 57-year-old shop owner was conned and robbed on Saturday, by two well-dressed and well-spoken women who pretended to be customers.

The incident took place at 1.14pm, when the business woman was about to close her shop, the Arts and Craft Junky, situated along Prince George Avenue.

She requested not to be named.

According to her, she was about to lock the doors when she was approached by the two women, who said they were desperately looking for a gift for their mother.

“At that stage I had no reason to be suspicious, but it all changed when we got into my shop,” said the woman.

“I felt uncomfortable and I went to put my handbag in my office. The one then distracted me and it was at this point that her accomplice must have entered my office and taken my handbag.”

“I only realised that my handbag was missing after the two thieves left the shop and got into a waiting white Opel Monza.”

According to the business owner, one woman was wearing a long brown wig, and the other one wore a shoulder-length black curly wig.

They were both well dressed and their make-up was immaculate.

“My handbag contained cash, my identity documents, driver’s licence, medical aid cards and reading glasses, as well as other personal items.”
