Man who robbed boy (14) with toy gun is jailed
A 28-year-old man, who robbed a 14-year-old boy of his cellphone at gunpoint, last year, was recently found guilty and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
The robbery occurred on October 2, along Augrabies Street, in Dalpark 6, Brakpan.
The suspect was later pointed out by the complainant, to a member of Brakpan police, who was patrolling in Dalpark.
The policeman arrested the suspect and also confiscated a toy gun, which was found in his bag.
The accused, Velile Hamza Sibiya, was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, when he appeared in the Brakpan Magistrates Court, on April 9.
The accused was previously also sentenced to eight years imprisonment, of which two years were suspended for three years, when he appeared in the Benoni Regional Court, on a charge of robbery.
“Thorough investigation by Det Sgt Webster Shabalala led to the good conviction,” said Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan Police Station commander.
