EMPD arrest 57 for drinking and driving

Although the EMPD was kept very busy over the Easter weekend, no serious or fatal accidents were reported in Brakpan.

However, three people — one driver and two passengers — were killed in two accidents in Ekurhuleni.

The EMPD arrested five people for possession of drugs, one for murder, two for theft, one for a fake driving licence and 57 for drunk driving.

Discontinue notices were issued for 25 vehicles, with three being impounded on suspicion of being stolen vehicles.

Eight stolen vehicles were recovered.

On Sunday, two passengers and a driver died in two accidents, in Duduza and on Great North Road, Benoni.

An operation conducted in Edenvale, Kempton Park, Benoni and Springs, between Thursday evening and Friday morning, last week, resulted in the arrest of 33 drivers, for drunk driving.

Fifteen of these were arrested in Edenvale, 11 in Kempton Park, six in Benoni and one in Springs.

Furthermore, between midday on Friday, last week and Saturday night, five arrests were made for drunk driving in the KwaTsaDuza area, one in Vosloorus and 13 in Germiston North.

In and around the Chief Luthuli Park informal settlement, five more drivers were arrested for drunk driving, while five arrests for drugs were made in Germiston and Boksburg.

Three arrests were made in Reiger Park – one for murder and two for theft.

A male suspect was taken in for being in possession of a fake driving licence and six street traders were arrested for possession of counterfeit DVDs and CDs, valued at almost R100 000, in Daveyton and Katlehong.
