R23 taxi accident witnesses sought

Brakpan police are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed an accident along the R23 (Heidelberg Road), last week, to come forward.

It was reported in last week’s Herald that 16 people were injured after a minibus taxi overturned on the R23, on Tuesday morning.

The taxi rolled several times and came to a standstill on its side.

Brakpan police suspect that one of the vehicle’s tyres burst.

Four people were critically injured in the crash, two of whom were airlifted to hospital.

According to police, one of the accident victims — a 56-year-old woman — has since died.

Cases of reckless and negligent driving and culpable homicide are being investigated.

Information can be reported to the investigating officer, WO Dirk Carstens, on 073 205 8138.
