New requirements for firearm training institutions

The SAPS have introduced new requirements to combat the issuing of fraudulent firearm training certificates.

According to Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan Police Station commander, illegal proficiency certificates are being issued by training institutions which are not properly accredited.

“All training provider certificates presented to the SAPS at station level must, with immediate effect, be accepted only if accompanied by a Professional Firearm Training Council (PFTC) statement of results,” said Joubert.

“No institution may issue a firearm training certificate for the purposes of applying for a competency certificate or firearm licence if it is not accredited with the PFTC.”

For more information, contact Capt Danie Leipoldt, of the Brakpan police firearm division, on 011 744 7162.
