Primary school teacher and Nigerians nabbed for drugs

The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department’s Germiston Crime Prevention Unit arrested five Nigerian nationals and a 41-year-old teacher on Saturday morning, for being in possession of drugs.

The foreign nationals face an additional charge of dealing in drugs.

According to EMPD spokesperson, Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, the Crime Prevention Unit members acted on a tip-off.

“While combing the Brakpan CBD, the metro police members noticed two vehicles parked in Hendrik Potgieter Street; a silver Daewoo sedan was parked very close behind a silver Ford Figo,” said Kgasago.

“The former had two male occupants and the latter only the driver.

“The EMPD’s patience paid off when they eventually witnessed an exchange taking place between the passenger in the Daewoo and the driver of the Ford Figo.

“The metro police members pounced and arrested the three men for being in possession of four small packets of the drug, Cat.”

The arrest took place at about 9.30am.

“At the two Nigerians’ residence in Queen Street, three additional suspects were arrested when the metro police uncovered more drugs hidden in the kitchen cupboards,” said Kgasago.

“On the whole, six packets of crystal meth and 33 packets of Cat were
confiscated.”

The drugs have an estimated street value of R10 000.

The five Nigerians, aged between 24 and 29,  and the teacher — who is believed to be employed at a primary school in Elsburg, Germiston — are expected to appear in the Brakpan Magistrates Court today (Monday).
