Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend (January 9, 10 and 11):

Friday

A would-be robber was arrested by police in Brakpan North.

The robber and an accomplice, who evaded capture, had attempted to rob a man of his cellphone.

The victim was confronted by the pair as he was walking through the veld, near Ellis Street, at about 10.15am.

The robbers held him at gunpoint and searched him, taking his cellphone.

When the complainant resisted and grabbed his cellphone back, he was struck on the head with the firearm.

He managed to run away and stopped passers-by for assistance, and the police were then called.

The suspect faces a charge of robbery with a firearm.

A woman was robbed by three men along Selbourne Avenue.

She arrived home at about 12.45pm and was unloading items from her car, when she noticed three men in the street.

Two of them suddenly jumped over the fence and ran towards her.

They pointed a silver firearm at her and told her to ”shut up”.

They ripped a ring valued at R60 000 from her finger, and fled.

Television sets were stolen from homes along Bottlebrush Street and Louis Leipoldt Street, Dalpark.

A business along Prince George Avenue was burgled of various goods, including tyres and a step ladder.

Saturday

A man was robbed of his wallet and other items by a gang of men, along Location Road.

The complainant was travelling towards Brakpan North, at about 8.30pm, when a grey BMW suddenly drove in front of him, forcing him to stop.

An Audi (model and colour unknown) had also stopped behind him.

An armed male approached the man’s vehicle and told him to open the doors.

The robber held the gun to his head and instructed him to keep quiet.

Three other robbers then came to the car and took the victim’s wallet, his vehicle’s sound equipment, including the radio and amplifier, and tools.
