Dominance

In an abusive relationship, the individual usually feel the need to be in charge of the relationship. They usually make the decisions for you, give you instructions of what to do and expect your obedience without question.

Chances are that your abuser may treat you as either their servant, child or possession. Basically, your existence to please them and serve them without taking into consideration your well being.

Isolation

If someone is isolating you in any way, then you best know that this is one of the ways your abuser will you to ensure remain under their ‘spell’.

They will cut you off from the outside world by keeping you from seeing friends and family, or even prevent you from going to work.

Threats

This is probably the most common sign that you are being abused. The abuser is most likely to use threats to keep their partner from leaving.

Threats may include killing you, your children or other family members; they may also threaten to report you to child services.

Intimidation

Most abusers will intimidate you with the aim of scaring you into obedience. These may include, threatening gestures, smashing things in front of you, destroying property or putting weapons on display.

Denial and blame

Abusers are very good at denying or minimising their abuse towards you. If anything, they prefer shifting the blame on you.
