New date set for Jasmin murder trial

The Jasmin murder trial will resume in the Delmas High Court, next year.

The Brakpan man (23) accused of raping and murdering his four-year-old niece, Jasmin Pretorius, made a brief appearance in the Delmas High Court, in Mpumulanga, earlier today (Thursday).

None of Jasmin’s family were present.

The accused was referred to the Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital, in Pretoria, for 30-days observation.

Judge Tati Mokgaka ordered that the accused be evaluated by a panel of three psychiatrists.

Due to a shortage of state psychiatrists, however, one would be a private practitioner.

It was revealed that there is not a bed available for the accused at the hospital, and Mokgoka then set down a new trial date.

The accused will be back in court on March 2, 2015.
