Jasmin’s mom speaks out before start of trial

Sasha-Lee Bam, the mother of murdered Jasmin Pretorius (4) is not ready to forgive her daughter's killer.

The case against the Brakpan man, accused of raping and murdering his niece, Jasmin, started in the Delmas High Court, this morning.

Bam spoke to the Herald shortly before trial proceedings got underway.

“It’s been an emotional roller coaster, and the last two weeks have been really hectic,” she said.

“I’ve been happy, sad and angry, and I just can’t wait for it to be over with.”

Bam told the Herald she was not ready to forgive.

“I have not forgiven him for what he’s done; maybe when everything is over, I can start forgiving, but not yet.”

Bam was in court with her family, including her father Pastor Colin Bam, whom she described as “very supportive”.

“My dad is my life,” she added.

Jasmin’s father Morné Pretorius was also present.

Two weeks have been set aside for the trial, and it is expected to be finalised by Friday, November 28.
