Report corrupt police officers

The Brakpan SAPS have asked the public to assist in tackling corruption amongst the local police service.

Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan Police Station commander, urged residents who fall victim to corrupt police officers to report them.

According to Joubert, the most common form of corruption is bribery.

“If you pay these bribes, you are just as guilty,” he said.

“We condemn all forms of corruption.”

He advised residents who find themselves in a situation where an officer is requesting a bribe, to take down the officer’s name, the police vehicle’s registration number and call sign.

The call sign is usually made up of two letters and two numbers, and can be found on the side of the vehicle.

It is also important to note the date, time and place of the incident.

“This is vital, as each police vehicle is fitted with a tracking device,” said Joubert.

“If the vehicle can be traced to that location on that date and at that time, we can take action.”
