Water situation improves in Ekurhuleni

The Ekurhuleni water shortage situation has improved with seven previously affected areas now receiving water.

According to Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality spokesperson Themba Gadebe, the situation has returned to normal in Benoni, Brakpan, Kempton Park, Germiston, Daveyton, Etwatwa and Tsakane.

Efforts to fill the reservoirs supplying the three remaining areas of Bedfordview, Primrose and parts of Tembisa have been doubled to fast-track the process.

Rand Water has diverted additional water from the Eikenhof systems and Mapleton to assist the Palmiet Reservoirs – which supplies water to Bedfordview, Primrose, Kempton Park and Tembisa.

“We are confident that the situation will continue to improve,” said Gadebe.

“In the interim, we will continue to supply the affected areas with water tankers until the situation has normalised.

“As Rand Water and Ekurhuleni engineers continuously work around the clock to bring the situation back to normal, we wish to emphasize the call to residents to assist the process by using the available water sparingly.”

To stabilize the water supply all water users are requested to refrain from all forms of irrigation, washing of vehicles using hose pipes and filling up of swimming pools.

Residents are also urged to report any pipe bursts, and repair leaks in their properties to avoid water losses.

The municipality apoligised for any inconvenience caused.
