The pair may not be named, to protect the child’s identity.
According to Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan Police Station commander, the toddler was raped by her mother’s friend from January until April, last year, at a residence along Tweedy Road.
This was done with the mother’s consent and the acts were filmed.
The pair was arrested last year and both were found guilty on charges of rape and the creation of child pornography, on Thursday, August 7, when they appeared in the Delmas High Court.
“They were each sentenced to 18 years imprisonment on the rape charge and five years for the creation of child pornography,” said Joubert.
He commended the investigating officer, Capt Blackie Swart, of the provincial Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, for the successful conviction.
“Due to his good investigation, a proper sentence was given to both,” he said.
