Metro refutes alleged Eskom debt

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has affirmed it does not owe money to Eskom.

“The City of Ekurhuleni has noted the disturbing misrepresentation in media reports stating that the municipality owes Eskom nearly R1-billion,” said metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

“We wish to state on record that the City of Ekurhuleni owes no monies to Eskom.

“Every single bill received from Eskom, totaling R7-billion in the 2013/2014 financial year, ending 30 June 2014, was paid on time.

Gadebe added that Ekurhuleni is in a healthy financial position and reiterated that all Eskom bills are paid on time, and in full.

The metro included this document in its statement regarding alleged Eskom debt.
