Equestrian Unit catches up with dagga dealer

Members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department's Equestrian Unit arrested a suspected dagga dealer, on Monday afternoon, last week.

The unit was conducting a roadside check in the Brakpan CBD at about noon, when they saw a vehicle making a U-turn — presumably to evade the roadblock.

The vehicle was pursued by officers, who managed to stop it along Prince George Avenue.

“On searching the vehicle, Metro Police found three packets of dagga, 78 small empty plastic bags and R1 200 in cash,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

“All the items, including the cash, were confiscated.

“It was suspected that the cash was proceeds from the sales of dagga.”

The 31-year-old male driver of the car was arrested and charged with possession of and dealing in dagga.

Speed enforcement operations recently conducted by the EMPD in Brakpan resulted in the arrest of 12 motorists.

Six drivers were arrested along the R23 and another six were nabbed along Main Reef Road.
