Ten years sentence for hijacker

Justice was served when hijacker Bonginkosi Petros Dlamini (33) was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.

Dlamini was sentenced in the Brakpan Regional Court on Wednesday, April 9, and was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

According to Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan police station commander, Dlamini and another man hijacked the driver of a Toyota Venture taxi, in Leachville, in 2011.

“Both were armed, one with a screwdriver and the other with a knife,” he said.

“They threatened the driver after he had dropped off other passengers.”

Joubert told the Herald that the Venture was later stopped by police and Dlamini was arrested.

His accomplice fled on foot.

Joubert added that excellent work by Brakpan detective Const Webster Tshabalala ensured the conviction.

“His work must be commended,” he said.
