Mall@Carnival gives back
Looking after children can be a daunting and rewarding task.
It is even harder when the children are orphaned and in need of support from the whole community.
To assist, the Mall@Carnival handed over donations to two local children’s charity organisations during the festive season.
Oliver’s House, a home in Benoni which focuses on early childhood development, education, skills development and community development, received R20 000 from mall centre manager Sandy Turner.
The money was from proceeds of the mall’s Walk For Charity campaign, held in November, last year.
“We are truly grateful to the mall and believe that by working together as a community, we can ensure a better future to those less fortunate”, said Lynette Smit, on behalf of Oliver’s House.
The Loved Ones of God received a donation of R30 000 from the mall, which will assist the organisation with food, clothing, school fees and toiletries over the next few months.
In addition, children from the Loved Ones of God were treated to a morning of fun, when local singer Emanuel Pietersen serenaded shoppers with Christmas Carols.
The children sang along and also enjoyed a movie and lunch sponsored by various shops.
The mall was also able to assist three other organisations, Feed a Child, Reamohetswe Community Centre and the Help and Support Children’s Foundation, by providing gift wrapping services to customers in exchange for donations.
