Animal bones dumped
Hundreds of animal bones have been dumped in a large pile alongside the R23 (Heidelberg Road), near Dalpark.
The bones, mostly the skulls and hooves of cattle, made their grizzly appearance in the veld next to the road on Thursday, last week.
“It’s causing an awful stench,” said Albert Wessels, who works at a vehicle dealership in the vicinity.
“We can smell it from across the road and the flies are everywhere.”
Wessels told the Herald that he and others had reported the bones to the authorities, but to no avail.
“We tried the municipality, the department of health, highway maintenance, you name it.
“No one seems interested, but this is definitely a health hazard.”
It is not known who dumped the bones and they were still at the side of the road at the time of going to press.
