‘Gangland’ war explodes

This incident follows the murder of Veselin Laganin on November 2 and the murder of Sam Issa on October 12.

Two people were killedand three others injured when a bomb exploded at Radovan Krejcir’s Money Point gold and diamond exchange business on the corner of Bradford and Nicol roads in Bedfordview on November 12.

Paramedics, the SAPS, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) and emergency management services were dispatched to the scene.

According the Bedfordview SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, “A man walked into the store during the afternoon with a bag carrying an explosive device. The device was detonated shortly thereafter, blowing out the windows and glass doors while at least five people were still inside.”

According to an SAPS statement, an explosive device was detonated inside the premises of Money Point at approximately 5pm.

Two people were confirmed deadand three others were injured.

The injured were taken to a local hospital.

No further details on their condition are availableand the names of the deceased and injured are still unknown.

Investigations will be conducted by a team of detectives, coordinated by Lieutenant General Vinesh Moonoo.

SAPS forensic experts are still examining the scene and the type of device used is still unknown.

Many public figures recently took to social media, raising their concerns over the numerous crimes that have emerged relating to the criminal underworld in Bedfordview.

Mr Yusuf Abramjee, the vice president of Crime Stoppers International (CSI), questioned when the crimes will end.

“Bedfordview continues to make the headlines. When will this stop? When will police get to the bottom of the lawlessness or is it that the police can’t stop the lawlessness in Bedfordview? Makes you think, doesn’t it?” said Mr Abramjee.

Brigadier Neville Malila, the communications spokesperson for the Gauteng SAPS, has appealed to residents with information that could assist investigations to come forward.

This incident follows the murder of Veselin Laganin on Novermber 2, the murder of Sam Issa on October 12 and the attempted murder of Radovan Krejcir on July 24.
