Success for Equestrian Unit

Members of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Equestrian Unit arrested 13 suspects last week, while doing routine patrols in Brakpan, Springs and Benoni.

The arrests included people found in possession of dagga and CAT, and people being intoxicated and undocumented.

On Tuesday morning, last week, on Peenz Road, in the Benoni area, five male suspects, aged between 27 and 30, were arrested after the red Ford Figo in which they were travelling was stopped and searched.

Officers found 1kg of dagga in the vehicle and the 30-year old male driver, who blew 0.144 using the Alco meter/breathalyzer, was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

On the same morning, at the Brakpan Dam, in Escombe Avenue, a 43-year-old male behind the steering wheel of a parked Audi A4 sedan, was apprehended for possession of CAT.

Four undocumented males, between the ages of 24 and 36, who were walking on Cloverdene and Putfontein roads, were approached, searched and taken to the police station.

On Monday, last week, a 31-year-old male was stopped and searched in Springs, where eight match boxes of dagga were found.

On the same day, two undocumented persons, aged 30 and 34, who were walking along Third Avenue, Springs, were taken to the police station

Cases of possession of and dealing in an illicit substance, driving under the influence of alcohol and for undocumented persons, were registered against the suspects at the Brakpan, Crystal Park and Springs police stations, and they are expected to appear in the Brakpan, Benoni and Springs Magistrates Courts.
