Hell drivers run into trouble

The past week routine and special speed enforcement operations in Brakpan yielded thirteen arrests of speedsters.

Seven speedsters were nabbed on Monday morning on New Kleinfontein and Waterval roads which is a 70km/h zone.

The highest speedster clocked was 133km/h and the balance registered speeds of between 104 and 127km/h. Seven summonses were issued for speeding motorists.

On Friday, last week three speedsters were arrested on the R23 and Shakwane Roads in Tsakane which is a 100km/h zone.

The highest clocked speed was 141km/h and the driver was claiming that he was rushing to see a sick child. The other two speedsters arrested both clocked 137km/h. Seven spot summonses for exceeding the limit were also issued.

Meanwhile, twelve drivers were booked for moving violations including jumping the red traffic light. Five drivers found using cellphones while driving without a hands-free kit were issued with spot summonses, sixty-three for either invalid documentation or not having required documentation at all.

Eighteen drivers were issued with fines for expired vehicle licenses. Two transgressors got slapped with fines for parking and stopping offences and eight were booked for disregarding stop signs. Seven fines were issued for failure to fasten safety belts.

A total of five vehicles were discontinued, two due to accidents and three for defects.
