Gauteng Provincial Mountain Biking XCO Cross Country championships have been hosting fund raising events at Thaba Trails, for the Childhood cancer foundation CHOC.

“It’s just nice to see that people can think of somebody else,” said Gauteng Mountain Biking Commissioner, Wendell Bole, who also revealed that they will be sponsoring CHOC every year through the annual Endurance event.

Reports of the ailing health of the elderly statesman Nelson Mandela have dominated the media, with little mention of July 1 marking the commemoration of Moral Regeneration Movement month.

The Miss Earth team took to Orange Farm south of Johannesburg and planted a tree, with the help of community members and primary scholars. The tree was named Madiba in honour of Nelson Mandela.

This movement is considered to be inspired by the global icon, coinciding with his birth month.

The aim is to encourage communities to recommit themselves to be ambassadors of a society lead by positive values, ethical leadership, and one that inspires others to take a practical approach to lending a helping hand.

Individuals are urged to reflect on what they can do to make the country a better place for all who live in it, to individually or collectively have conversations and partnerships on how to be front-runners in building communities grounded on principles of Ubuntu and be voices of hope.

This month also marks the adoption of the Charter for Positive Values launched on July 28, 2008.
