I finally had the chance to read the second book in the amazing series by Sarah J. Maas, and I can tell you that I am officially obsessed.

After becoming the king’s champion, Celaena has been ordered to kill people on a strange list which the king has acquired from an informant of his.

Without a hint of remorse or guilt, she sets out to do as the king commands, in front of the eyes of all the members in court. But behind closed doors she is secretly moving the targets out of the kingdom and giving them a chance to escape. Not so cold hearted anymore is she?

Prince Dorian and captian Chaol Westfall do not agree with the missions she has been given but stay a safe distance away.

The princess has turned out to be one of Celaena’s closest friends in a place so far from home. But the more lies she tells and the more death she fakes, the more danger she puts all those she loves.

After the king speaks about an assassin she grew up with, Celaena is forced to dig deeper to discover how the king has acquired all the names on his list. Upon closer investigation, she soon realises there is a rebellion to uncover the king’s plans for Erilea, the princess’ kingdom.

Her childhood friend soon reveals the kings true intentions and, without warning, Celaena races back to uncover a terrible truth. Blinded by rage she attacks the captain and blames him for the part he had to play.

She is then thrown in the dungeons for her actions, while the darkness which once tried to consume the palace and all its inhabitants has not been destroyed.

Celaena has one last chance to try and defeat the evil lurking within the palace walls, or die trying.

Torn between love and loyalty, Celaena must decide what she will fight for: her liberty, her heart or the fate of a kingdom…
