Car stolen at night vigil

Duduza precinct officers, who were busy with ensuring the safety of cyclists at a race on Sunday morning, arrested a man for the possession of a stolen Dodge Caliber.

The suspect was spotted on the Old Alberton Road, at 6am.

“On sighting the suspicious white Dodge Caliber, the officers attempted to stop it, but the driver sped off,” explained the EMPD spokesperson, chief supt Wilfred Kgasago.

Following a high speed chase, the Dodge Caliber was cornered in Tsakane.

“The officers’ hunch proved accurate as it emerged that the vehicle was stolen from a night vigil in Kwa-Thema, on Saturday night,” said Kgasago.

The 27-year-old old male suspect, who admitted to the crime, was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle as well as failing to stop on instruction by a police officer.

He appeared in the Springs Magistrate’s Court on Monday, April 13.
