Dalpark car theft on the increase

The theft of motor vehicles is on the increase in Dalpark.

Three vehicles thefts and a hijacking occurred in the area on Saturday.

The vehicles were stolen from along Nossob Avenue, Van Dyk Road and Rangeview Street, between 10.15am and 12.45pm.

The hijacking occurred along Lawrence Street, at about 8am.

A man left his driveway and was waiting for the gate to close when he noticed a vehicle, which was earlier parked on an open piece of land, driving slowly past his house.

When the man pulled up behind the vehicle, at a stop sign, two men in the back seat climbed out and went to either side of his car.

The hijacker who walked to the driver’s side produced a firearm and pointed it at the man, while ordering him to get out of the vehicle.

When the victim opened the door, the hijacker grabbed him by his shirt and pulled him out.

The hijacker then climbed in and his accomplice, who had been standing on the passenger side, ran back to the other vehicle and they drove off, with the one following the other.

“Car owners should be extra careful, always lock their doors and not leave any valuable items in unattended cars,” said Capt Peet van der Schyff, from the Brakpan SAPS.
