Metro is out of touch with residents

"Unhappy resident" writes by email: I agree wholeheartedly with your front page headline on your paper dated January 16 (What a lot of rubbish).

We were not advised of the change to the refuse removal system by any form, and now sit with three weeks worth of bags for which we have paid the metro to remove.

I have logged two complaints on the metro’s website but so far the only response received has been two reference numbers.

We only learnt of the change by talking with other residents.

With some difficulty we also determined where to get a bin from.

The metro does not make it easy to get a hold of these bins.

We had to arrange for my mom, who is a pensioner, to go to Vulcania to collect a bin on our behalf, which hardly fitted inside the vehicle.

The fact that only a metro bin may be used, for which one is billed, means once again someone is getting rich at the expense of East Rand residents.

Little regard is given by the metro to the fact that the majority of Brakpan residents do not work in the town, but instead leave early in the morning to get to work, and then get home late.

There is therefore no possibility of collecting a bin during the week.

I note too that there is no mini dump in the Brakpan North area.

How are we to get the stuff to the dump?

In the boot of our vehicles?

It is little wonder residents in some areas resort to burning tyres and stone throwing if this is an example of service delivery by our metros.

Where are our councillors in this mess?

Come election time, we are asked to vote for them but when we need these ‘public servants’ they are nowhere to be found.

Really, the metro needs to get in touch with the needs of the residents, rather than sitting in their air conditioned office and dictating changes as ludicrous as this one.
