Residents to protest Wheelie Bin system

Residents of Dalpark Extension One will take their refuse bags and other uncollected rubbish to the EMM's Brakpan Customer Care Centre tomorrow (Saturday), in protest against the implementation of the new 240l Wheelie Bin system.

A message sent to the Herald, this morning, from the suburb’s Homeowners Association reads:

“The recent hard-handed and disorganised introduction of council’s ‘wheelie bin’ policy, and the subsequent issues it created for residents all over Brakpan, spurred the residents of Dalpark Extension One to show unity and to perform a protest action.

“The protest action is aimed at transferring our dilemma of black bags littering our pavements and bins not collected, over to the pavements of the Brakpan council.

“Hence on Saturday, January 17, at 12.30pm, all the residents of Brakpan are invited to join us as we will take out black bags of refuse in our cars, on our trailers, on our bakkies and go place it on the pavement of Brakpan town council.

“The aim is to get to council premises at 1pm.

“We will have a dump-and-go approach; this approach will see us stopping, dumping our bags and then going.

“We don’t want to protest, hand out memorandums or any of the sort as we think that the message would be received loud and clearly.

“If council does not react in a more reasonable fashion, we will do this again and again and again.”
