Woman and couple robbed after leaving bank

Armed robbers made off with R86 000 in cash, in two separate bank following incidents, last week.

According to information received from Brakpan police, a woman was robbed of R70 000 on Tuesday, and a couple was robbed of R16 000 on Friday.

In both cases, the victims had withdrawn money from Absa bank in the Mall@Carnival.

Police reports indicate the woman was robbed just after 9am, as she was leaving the mall.

A white BMW with two male occupants forced her to stop her car along Rangeview Road.

The occupants alighted the vehicle, pointed guns at her and demanded the money and her cellphone.

On Friday, a couple was robbed of their employees’ wages as they returned to their business along Nossob Street, Dalpark.

As they approached the company’s premises, a silver Audi with three occupants stopped in front of their vehicle, and two men jumped out.

The men, one of whom was armed, stormed the couple’s car and grabbed the woman’s handbag, containing the cash.

They then got back into the Audi and sped off.

Police have since established that the Audi’s number plates are false.

Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan Police station commander, urged residents to report suspicious vehicles and persons to the SAPS immediately on 10111.

It was reported in the Herald’s October 17 edition (”SAPS: Be alert at the bank”), how bank followings continue to be a regular occurrence in the Brakpan area.

Police warned residents to exercise caution when making large withdrawals, especially since the festive season is just around the corner.
