Entertaining line-up at Melting Pot National Choral Festival
Carnival City's Big Top Arena is expected to be filled to the brim this weekend, when the country's choral music connoisseurs celebrate and pay homage to struggle stalwart and former choral music maestro Oliver Reginald Tambo.
This year’s installment of the Ekurhuleni Melting Pot National Choral Festival will take place today (Saturday) and tomorrow, and promises to be the highlight of the City of Ekurhuleni’s annual O R Tambo month celebrations.
“This year’s Tambo month commenced with the Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Liberation Walk which took place in Kempton Park on October 4,” said metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.
“This year more than 2 800 people participated in the walks and run in honour of the struggle icons.
“We are now inviting those who have an inclination towards music to join us in celebrating South Africa’s finest musical talent while reflecting on OR’s contribution to the 20 years of democracy that we are reveling this year.”
The audience can expect to be serenaded by the great Kwa-Zulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra while last year’s winners, the Clermont Community Choir, defend their title during the two day melodious mêlée of the nation’s top ten choirs.
An entertaining line-up of artists will keep the crowds on their feet, including Zakes Bantwini, Sibongile Khumalo, Solly Mahlangu and Jaziel Brothers. Celeste Ntuli will have the audience in stitches with her jokes.

The festival starts at 9am.
