Ekurhuleni testing stations offer free truck assessments
The City of Ekurhuleni is calling on truck owners with Gross Vehicle Mass of 3500 kg and more to visit its testing stations for free vehicle assessment.
The free vehicles assessment campaign is open for the entire month of October to mark the National Transport Month.
The participating testing stations include those in Brakpan, Nigel, Springs, Germiston, Boksburg and Kempton Park.
“Ensuring that we have roadworthy vehicles on our roads is fundamental for us as a City because we have a high volume of heavy vehicles driving in and out of our City because of the large industries that we have in our municipal area,” said MMC for Transport, Clr Thembu Mahlangu.
“We also encourage public operators to continue on a regular basis to test their vehicles even beyond the campaign.”
The free test campaign seeks to curb fatal road accidents as a result of vehicle un-roadworthiness.
Taxis and buses are also encouraged to come for tests.
The assessment involves the checking of tyres, breaks, hand breaks, steering mechanism and the general condition of the vehicle.
The MMC encourages all public transport operators to seize the opportunity to be informed about the roadworthy status of their vehicles so that corrective measures can be taken and prevent deadly accidents.
