Ekurhuleni pools open for swimming season

Spring is here and for the City of Ekurhuleni that means swimming season has officially begun.

As of September 1, until March 31, next year, municipal swimming pools in the City are open for use by members of the public.

All swimming pools, with the exception of the Boksburg North and Delville pools, operate from Tuesday to Saturday (10am to 6pm) and from 2pm to 6pm on Sundays and public holidays.

The City’s pools are closed on Mondays, including public holidays which fall on that day, as well as on Christmas Day and Good Friday.

The entrance fee varies from R5 at Category C pools, R10 at Category B pools, and R15 at Category A pools.

The total number of public pools in Ekurhuleni is 35, 28 of which were opened on September 1.

The Etwatwa, Selection Park, Alra Park, Benoni Central, Katlehong and Van Dyk Park swimming pools are non-operational due to various reasons.

Investigations into structural problems at the Etwatwa pool are ongoing, while the Selection Park and Van Dyk Park facilities will undergo total rehabilitation in the 2015/2016 financial year.

The Alra Park, Benoni Central and Katlehong facilities are currently being refurbished and are expected to be operational during the course of the season.

Meanwhile, there has been theft of filter equipment at Olympia Park which has caused a delay in opening the facility.

The City wishes all swimmers a safe summer in the water, and reminds all patrons to its pools to abide by the rules at all times.
