Foreign national faces slew of charges after running from EMPD

A 31-year-old foreign national was arrested by members of the EMPD's Equestrian Unit, following a high speed chase in the Brakpan CBD on Wednesday evening, last week.

According to the EMPD, the man — who was travelling in a Kia sedan — refused to halt during a routine traffic stop at about 9.30pm.

When apprehended he was found to be intoxicated and in possession of drugs.

“The suspect’s failure to comply when stopped by the metro police resulted in a high speed chase, to which the suspect stood no chance as he was cornered after a few kilometers”, said EMPD spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago.

“Over and above the 24 packets of the drug Cat found in the suspect’s possession, fraudulent asylum-seeker papers were also found.

“To crown it all, he was heavily inebriated from alcohol.”

The confiscated drugs have an estimated street value of R4800.

The man was charged with possession of illicit substances, dealing in illicit substances, driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of fraudulent documents, resisting arrest and reckless and negligent driving.
