Pigeons race from Springfontein

This week, the Brakpan Pigeon Club’s birds took off from Springfontein.

The young birds were liberated at 7.30am on Saturday, July 26.

The first bird, belonging to Hennie du Plooy, was timed at 12.37.52pm, with a velocity of 1 655.002mpm, followed by the partnership of Frik Smit and Hennie Pienaar (CX Hokke) who claimed all the places from second to seventh.

The second bird was timed at 12.39.14pm, with a speed of 1 652.004mpm, while their seventh and final bird was timed at 12.40.16pm, with a speed of 1 646.503mpm — a remarkable effort.

At 8.15am the open birds were liberated, with Mark Viljoen’s bird claiming first position, timed at 1.20.01pm with a speed of 1 669.424mpm.

Koos Booyse claimed second place.

His bird clocked in at 1.22.26pm, with a speed of 1 669.301mpm.

Third place went to Hennie Botha, whose bird was timed at 1.23.51pm, with a speed of 1 668.773mpm.

The club’s next race will take place from Aliwal North.
