EMPD officer scoops award

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department officer Gloria Mohlamunye Komane, a member of the Speed Unit, took home a coveted trophy, a certificate and other prizes after winning the Performance and Excellence category of the seventh Annual Leadership for Women in Law Enforcement Conference.

The 2014 conference was held recently at Gold Reef City, Johannesburg.

This annual event is held under the auspices of Intelligence Transfer Centre (ITC), a company that is committed to promoting the skills development and training agenda throughout the continent by providing responsive and sustainable training interventions aiming at bridging the skills shortages and gaps in the working class.

ITC gives recognition to the female stars of the law enforcement industry in four categories — Community Service and Rural Support, Performance and Excellence, Mentoring, Leadership and Medal of Heroism.

According to EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, Komane joined the EMPD in 2002 and immediately demonstrated an admirable passion for her work and a good work ethic.

“In 2013 Officer Komane arrested 361 speedsters, and this year her arrests already stand at 246,” he said.

“For eligibility to be a nominee in the Performance and Excellence category, one has to distinguish herself through superior attention to duty, investigative effort that leads to the identification and arrest of a major criminal or criminal activity.

“A dream becomes a goal when action is taken towards its achievement.”

Kgasago congratulated Komane.
