DFC lose the plot in the second half

It was a big match for Brakpan-based Dalpark FC (DFC), in the Benoni South Local Football Association (BSLFA) Division One, played on William Hills Secondary School’s grounds, in Actonville, on Saturday.

The team squared up against the team just above them in the league table, ACS, and needed a win to close the gap on their opponents.

What looked like a closely fought encounter, after DFC took a 1-0 lead into the half-time break, quickly became a route for ACS as they ran ragged in the second stanza to put five goals past the DFC goalkeeper.

“It is really a bad result for us,” said Dalpark coach Brian Fray after the game.

“We played so well in the first half and went into the break 1-0 up.

“In the second half we conceded what I would call a stupid goal when the ball slipped through the hands of our goalkeeper and went into the net.

“The boys could not recover and the second goal came in quick succession.

“It was a really disappointing result for us, as we have played very good soccer in the few games.”

The coach blamed poor decision making for the team’s second half demise.

“After the second goal went in all, the boys dropped their heads,” he said.

“We need to regroup and work hard at training this week so that we can get back on track in the league.”
