Superb Supadrift Saturday

The Rock Raceway hosted the first round of the 2014 Supadrift National Series, on Saturday, February 15 -- and what a spectacle it was.

Over 40 drifters gathered in Brakpan to take part in the national event.

Drivers spoke of the high-speed entry point and the intimidating switch close to the wall, which resulted in quite a number of crashes.

Thirty-seven drifters managed to get through qualification and a subsequent Top 32 ladder was implemented.

After qualifying, the Top 32 tandem races began and the drifting on display was of an extremely high quality.

Wade van Zummeren absolutely cleaned up The Rock tarmac, and his drifting display alone was worth the entrance fee for the petrol heads in attendance.

The top three drivers on the day were Zummeren (first place), Mathys Naudé (second place) and Hannes Frans (third place).

The next round of the Supadrift National series will take place on Saturday, March 29, at Dezzi Raceway, in Port Shepstone.
