Robbers target women

A domestic worker and group of women were terrorised by armed thugs in two robberies on Friday, last week.

The first took place at a home along Jim Vining Street, in Minnebron, at about 10.30am.

A domestic worker employed at the address was hanging up washing outside when two men armed with guns entered the property.

They told the woman to keep quiet and took her into the house, where they tied her up with shoelaces.

They forced her to take them to the main bedroom, after which she was made to lie face down in a bathroom.

After she could no longer hear the robbers in the house, the domestic worker managed to crawl out of the bathroom and pressed the panic button, alerting the security company.

The robbers managed to open a safe in the house, from which they stole three firearms and jewellery.

They also made off with a kettle, two television sets and a music system.

The second robbery took place at an address on Etosha Avenue, Leachville, at 2.30pm.

Two men, one of whom was armed with a gun, held up the 34-year-old homeowner shortly after she arrived home.

Police reports indicate that other women were in the house, but it is not known how many.

The robbers stole the women’s jewellery and fled in the homeowner’s white Mercedes Benz.

Brakpan police are investigating cases of house robbery and hijacking.
