Young fathers unite

It’s a known fact that absent fathers are a leading cause of psychological setbacks in children.

Absent fathers can also lead to households lacking leadership and a disciplined moral structure.

This, according to Bongani Luvalo, is the reason behind the birth of the “I am a cool dad” campaign.

“Several studies have shown that young boys, as they grow up, become aggressive and unruly due to the lack of a fatherly figure within their household,” said Luvalo, founder of the campaign.

“They decide to join gangs and get involved in various criminal activity, as this makes them feel needed and part of a family unit.

“In order to avoid this behaviour we launched the ‘I am a cool dad’ campaign, aimed at encouraging these young children and to provide a comfortable arena where young fathers can become role models to their children.”

The campaign was launched to create a social movement, to encourage young fathers, especially those between the ages of 21 and 35, to be loving, caring and responsible family men, thus creating a platform for socio-economic development.

The “I am a cool dad” campaign will kick off with a picnic day on Saturday, December 7, where all young fathers are invited to spend a day with their children and actively bond, starting the process of becoming active fathers within their communities.

The “I am a cool dad’ picnic day will be held at Bolithando Park in Kwa Thema and entrance is free.

“On this day we will have celebrities and various entertainment for young and old, and we aim to make this picnic a day all fathers and their children will never forget,” added Luvalo.
