Not even cold weather could put a damper on the Brakpan SPCA’s movie at the pound held on the evening of September 23.

Around 60 people were in attendance at the family-orientated event where the Disney classic Homeward Bound was screened.

Movie-goers also enjoyed pancakes, popcorn, hot chocolate and coffee, prepared by SPCA committee members and volunteers.

“The behind-the-scenes prep work by the committee members and volunteers was amazing,” said committee vice-chairperson Riaan van Zyl, who added he was proud of SPCA manager Tamaryn Lombard for ensuring the evening was a success.

Lombard was impressed with the turnout and support the fundraiser received, as well as the positive feedback from those in attendance.

“We have been asked to do it again, and will be doing something a bit different next time. It will be bigger and better, and incorporating extra,” she said.

Secure Tech Security, Brakpan SAPS and the Brakpan CPF ensured all safety aspects were covered on the evening, while the film’s audio was clear and crisp thanks to Prosound 23.

In addition, Klipdrif Braai donated wood for bonfires, and East Rand Toilet Hire provided portable restrooms.

One challenge noted on the evening was lighting, and an appeal has been made to any local businesses able to assist.

“We do need lighting for security purposes. We want to attract people to the pound and let them see it’s not a sad, scary place. People at the pound means animals are getting helped,” said Lombard.

Vendors are invited to sell their wares at the next movie night, which is scheduled for December 7.
