House robber fires shot at dogs

A Sherwood Gardens couple enjoying a braai on Monday evening found themselves the target of house robbers.

According to police information, the incident took place at an address along Talbot Street just before 19:00.

The husband returned to the house after tending to the braai outside when he heard his dogs barking.

He looked through a window to see what was riling up the dogs and saw a man standing next to the braai.

Suspecting something was wrong, he told his wife they need to leave and go to the neighbour’s house.

As they made their way to the outside gate, they were caught by another man, who held them at gunpoint and instructed them to get back inside the house.

The man standing next to the braai then fired a shot towards the couple’s dogs, which fortunately missed its target.

The couple was taken to their bedroom where they noticed another two men inside the house.

All the robbers were wearing balaclavas. They ransacked the home and took three cellphones, a TV, a laptop and a set of car keys.

Before leaving, the robbers told the couple to count to 10 while they exited the house. This is the second such incident reported to Brakpan police in less than a month.

As reported in the Brakpan Herald’s July 26 edition, ‘Weekend crime’, dinner for a Germains Avenue couple and the man’s mother was ruined when their evening braai on July 19 was interrupted by house robbers.

Three men, one of whom was armed with a gun, gained access to the house at around 21:00. The husband, who had been outside manning the braai, was followed by the trio when he headed indoors.

Once inside the house, they instructed the man, his wife and mother to lie on the floor. They demanded money and wanted to know the whereabouts of the safe.

After retrieving money from a bedroom, the robbers fled, also taking a TV and a laptop.
