EMPD pledges to continue deploying officers to busy intersections
Motorists also complained about EMPD officers not always being on duty during peak hours to direct traffic at this intersection, which is one of the town's busiest.
There have been no fatal accidents at the Elsburg and Heidelberg roads (R554/R23) intersection in the last six months.
This is according to the EMPD and in response to the article ‘Stop signs drive motorists mad’ in the Brakpan Herald’s May 10 edition.
It was reported how motorists have becoming increasingly frustrated and fearful when travelling through this intersection near Carnival City as the traffic lights have not been functional for months, and stop signs have been erected.
Motorists complained that this four-way stop results in lengthy delays, and there were claims of numerous accidents.
There were also reports of motorists ignoring the stop signs and speeding through the intersection when there is no traffic congestion.

Motorists also complained about EMPD officers not always being on duty during peak hours to direct traffic at this intersection, which is one of the town’s busiest.
EMPD media liaison officer Lerato Monyane told the Herald that Brakpan Precinct officers are deployed at the intersections of R23 and R554/N17/Airport Drive on weekdays (Monday to Friday) from 06:00 to 08:30 and from 15:00 to 18:00.
“There are no fatal accidents which occurred at the said intersections for the past six months. There are only 12 accidents which occurred, and only two out of 12 accidents resulted in slight injuries,” said Monyane.
“This is per the records of the Brakpan Accident Bureau.”
Monyane added that the EMPD Brakpan Precinct will continue deploying officers to the intersections.
